“Stranger Things” S3 art!

Posted on

Oh my word, who else loved the most current season of “Stranger Things”, in all of its’ 80s mall glory?! It was just so fun!

I was really inspired by the first season to do my own Golden Book concept – you can see that here. I also just really loved the characters, so I did some ink sketches of them all – you can see that here.

I was too busy to do stuff for season 2, but for season 3 I just had to do some art. I have plans to do at least an illustration from each episode, but so far I did these two from episode 1.

A quick paint study of the cinematography – I loved this shot from episode 1!

“Dear Younger (gay) Me” Book Update

Posted on

My agent Claire and I have been working hard on this for the last few weeks, and hopefully soon I will have more news to share!

This project has just poured out of me, like a pitcher full of water finally being emptied. In my 18 years as an artist, I have never quite had that feeling before. Usually I struggle with getting what’s in my head onto the page/screen. I’m really excited to finish it, and for everyone to get the chance to read it! I have a lot more work [drawing] to do, but I feel so incredibly grateful to work on it every chance I get. Here are the latest illustrations I have done – they will make more sense with the text. 🙂

Stay tuned for the full story and publishing updates!

LGBTQ Story Illustrations for OnePioneer

Posted on Updated on

I was asked to illustrate a little story for this great organization OnePioneer, who gives LGBTQ+ kids the same experience at camps as the other kids. Growing up in a very conservative Christian summer camp [which I loved!], I understand how important this is, especially now.

To read the full story written by Michelle Dowling and Emma Silverthorne, click here! See below the illustrations in order of how they appear in the story. I love doing little projects like this!

Working on “Dear Younger (gay) Me”

Posted on Updated on

Hi friends! Life is sooooooo busy [Mamas & Papas raise your hands!] but I am continuing to move forward on this book project. I don’t know what will happen, but I feel it in my bones that I just gotta do it.

Here’s an illustration that will be for the inside.

If anyone needs/wants a reminder of why I am writing this, read my original announcement here. I will also post my cover again to see the art together.

Stay tuned for more updates!

Oscar Posters 2019

Posted on Updated on

This is always a fun exercise for me each year, since I LOVE film, the Oscars and designing stuff! These are more for me than anyone else 🙂 But if you enjoy them too, then cool! **I only design posters for the films I see, so I can design the poster with the full picture in mind.

I managed 8 this year – here they are together, and then individual designs are below.

Congrats to “Green Book” for winning Best Picture! But really, congrats to every nominee, cuz that must be an amazing feeling! 😀

My “Stranger Things” Golden Book

Posted on

I love Netflix’s “Stranger Things”. Who doesn’t? And I love Golden Books. So I thought, why not combine them for a fun exercise??

I tried to work my way through Season 1 [with full-time work and a toddler], so I only made 10 pages so far. With the new baby coming, I will pause this for now, but hopefully will come back to finish it later. It’s been fun to do!

See what I have so far: [all pages done digitally in Photoshop]ep01_a.jpg

Robson-inspired sketches

Posted on

Since I have been home taking care of Robson the last few months, AND trying to keep up with my full-time gig – doing any additional sketching seems like a pipe dream! BUT… once in a while, I am able to carve out a precious hour or two to do some art for myself.

Here are a few I have done so far:

robson01

Robson in the Woods admiring the trees as she does on our daily walks. 🙂 [digital]

robson02

Robson running around with multiple sweaters all day. Sometimes she wears 3 at a time. 🙂 [digital]

Robson and I go to the same park almost every day near our house. I love looking at this massive tree that reminds me of a mysterious cave. I finally drew it from memory. 🙂 [digital]
